Study Room for Teen

We moved into our new home almost 2 years ago.  We looked at over 25 different homes.  There were a few that fell through our hands that we really liked.  Boy was that a hard time.  It hurt to want something so much to have someone else grab it.  But those homes were not exactly what we were looking for.

The housing market was just starting to open up when we started looking, and selling at the same time.  I can not tell you how much work (and years) that we put into our old house to sell.  New carpet, new hard wood floors, new tile in bath rooms, all new paint inside and out.  It went on and on.  We also rented out a  Pod to store all our stuff and cleaned every day and staged the home to the hilt.

All our work paid off.  Our old house had a contract on it in three weeks.  OH MY GOODNESS!!!  Happy Dance!  But we still had to find our Dream home.

WE DID!  We were looking for a in-ground pool, (old house had an above ground, my dream was a in-ground) and a BIG backyard.  The old house had a small back yard full of trees.  No room for a garden.

The house we found had everything we were looking for.  It is a gorgeous home, with a few flaws.  All were fixable though.  PAINT was the main one.  The people that lived here before painted some rooms and they were NOT painters.  They painted the top of baseboards and the bottom of crown molding the wall color.  OMG.  It seems like they replaced all 30 some doors but only painted the outside of some 1 coat of white and left others the primer color.  So in a nut shell we knew we would have to paint  the whole house.

For me to paint a room is a thrill.  It makes it your own.  So in a way they did me a favor any way.  We are now in a dream home and making it our own.

Which brings me to what we did to one of the up stairs rooms.  It was orginaly a bedroom.  I called it void of all color.  it was Totally White.  The doors were put up with NO paint so they were primer umm  yellowish???

This is what it looked like when we walked through the home.
We moved in and made it our teen's study room.  It was nothing special at all.  The shelf you see and a desk in the other corner.
Do you see how the closets are a different color then the white walls?  That is a photo of doors put up with No paint.  It took 3 coats of bright white to cover them.
But it was so fun to change things to match our style.  I had to search the Web for months to find some kind of inspiration for this room so I went to
http://www.houzz.com/
I have found a ton of ideas on this web site.

This is what we came up with.
This was the color we decide on for several reasons.  When you look out the window you can see the pool.  It is this same color in the summer.  Plus it would match what we were going to put on this large wall.
This was the end result on that one wall.  A World Map!  We got the laminated one.  We thought the extra weight and gloss would look good and boy does it ever.

Another view with the doors painted white.

This shows the opposite corner with glass shelves to match the L-shape desk and the new ceiling fan.  We were totally happy with the way this turned out.  I feel it is a Study room that a Teenage Boy can be proud of.  All of his friends LOVE it!  He gets to sit at the desk, do his work and get his zen on with the window right there.  Wish I had this when I was growing up.

We got the map here http://www.worldmapsonline.com/wallmurals.htm

I hope I gave you a few ideas for your home!
